Things to do in and around Stellenbosch
The town of Stellenbosch is situated about 50 kilometres (31 mi) east of Cape Town, along the banks of the Eerste River. Stellenbosch is full of charming scenes and rich in history.
From the myriad of meticulously restored Cape Dutch style buildings throughout the town to the 19th century university buildings, the town exudes history and good taste. This visual effect of Stellenbosch is of course, compounded by the fact that the town is surrounded by spectacular mountains and some of the world’s most famous vineyards adding to the town and region’s attractiveness.
A wide variety of activities is on offer to both locals and tourists alike.
Stellenbosch is also perfect to use as a base for visiting Cape Town, Paarl, Hermanus and Franschhoek. It is within an hour's drive to Hermanus for whale watching. Betty's Bay can be visited en-route, when travelling on the spectacular Clarence Drive.
